A passionate Jeep enthusiast and entrepreneur came to Beyond Design with a vision: create a quick-mounting attachment system that could transform a vehicle’s spare tire into a functional cargo platform. He identified a gap in the market for a tool-free mounting solution capable of supporting heavy items like a full-sized Yeti cooler.

The design challenge was multifaceted. The mount needed to attach to existing spare tires without requiring any additional tools, while embodying the rugged, beefy aesthetic that matches Jeep’s brand language. However, it couldn’t appear so heavy that it would offset the vehicle’s visual balance. Additionally, as a startup venture, we needed to provide cost-effective manufacturing solutions.

Our team explored various manufacturing approaches before settling on aluminum as the ideal material for its lightweight durability. We used extrusions to create structural integrity while keeping both weight and startup tooling costs manageable. The final design featured anodized black aluminum with a moon black matte finish that perfectly captured the premium outdoor aesthetic.

A standout detail was the logo treatment we developed for the WildLock brand. Using a diamond cutter, we machined the logo area on the top surface, creating a surface-raised design that provides both tactile feedback and a sophisticated visual element. This secondary operation elevated the product’s perceived value and reinforced the premium positioning.

We designed the system to be inherently versatile, creating a platform that could accommodate additional accessories like bike and ski mounts. This modular approach gave the entrepreneur a foundation for building an entire product ecosystem under the WildLock brand.

Throughout development, our team built and rigorously tested prototypes to ensure the final product met both performance and aesthetic requirements. The result was a distinctive mounting system that successfully launched WildLock into the competitive Jeep accessories market while establishing a strong foundation for future product expansion.
