Beyond Design partnered with Cedar Electronics to develop a new Cobra-branded professional two-way radio, the Cobra Performa, and its charging docks. The product was designed for business and enterprise use to provide rugged durability, intuitive operation, and reliable communication for the hospitality, retail, dining, warehousing, education, construction, and event industries.

The Cobra Performa has a modern, minimalistic, professional aesthetic. The radios feature an LCD screen, an ergonomic design that is comfortable in users’ hands, and an adjustable holster with a removable belt-clip for all-day wearability. Plus, the charging base was given a modular look that fits a single charger as well as a 6-unit charging dock.

Shaping User Experiences with Purpose

The Cobra Performa’s design helps create straightforward communication. Designers recognized that busy professionals needed an effortless device in the field. Multiple concepts were sketched and considered to make the handheld shape, buttons, and LCD screen neat and intuitive. Focusing on key touch points and grips created a hierarchy so that important buttons, controls, and features grasped user attention.

After, designers curated reliable material choices, finishes, textures, and colors to elevate the design. The Cobra logo was proudly embedded on the device’s face and antenna to build a strong brand presence.
