A New DJ Experience

When designing a new turntable for DJ’s at nightclubs and events, our client was looking for future concepts to help with their positioning. We wanted to make the DJ the focal point of the room and create a more immersive and engaging experience.

Revitalizing the experience of the crowd at a nightclub or event.

As a creative agency, we are always asked to ‘think outside the box’. When designing a new turntable for DJ’s at nightclubs and events, we chose to focus on the experience of those in the crowd, more so than on the actual turntable itself. Today, crowds at nightclubs or events have admiration for the DJ and we wanted to design a product that provided a sort of alter for him/her to perform on. Our goal was to make the DJ the focal point of the room and create a more immersive and engaging experience.

Through our process, we looked at the interface design, interaction design, marketing, and product positioning. We saw the need to design a product and experience for two different users – the one feeding the input, the DJ, and the one experiencing the output, the audience.

The slim profile of the design allows viewers to see more of the DJ and understand their moves and positioning. As part of the interaction design, the DJ can take the sphere and push the base or ‘throw’ the treble around the room so that the sound moves throughout the crowd. This new interaction revitalizes the DJ experience, as well as that of those in the crowd.
