Money Counter UI & Industrial Design

Cummins Allison

Good Design Is Priceless

Creating Money Counters With Modern UI Controls and Design Elements

Challenge

Cummins Allison collaborated with Beyond Design on the design of their new money counting machine, which included a new UX/GUI and Industrial Design. The challenge was to create a system where the physical product design and digital interface leverage new capacitive touch screen technology and advanced processing capabilities in an effortless fashion. While maintaining a consistent workflow, the look and feel of the new machine had to project accuracy along with ease of use. Given the high-stakes nature of money counting, designers had to consider this with every design decision.

Process

Beyond Design was brought in early to visualize the UX/GUI and product design through comprehensive workflows and with concept sketch exploration that focused on the form development of the machine. Our design approach prioritized user ergonomics, as we knew that proper positioning would directly impact counting accuracy and reduce user fatigue. Designers conducted extensive research on how users interact with counting machines, which led us to an ideal screen angle and layout that minimizes neck pain and ensures clear sightlines to the screen and the money being processed.

Solutions for the industrial design used a clean, minimalistic form factor and neutral gray tones to help the device blend into any work environment and keep the user focused on the interface. Taking advantage of a new color screen and an advanced processor, the design team created an intuitive UI with carefully selected colors and fonts for maximum readability. This, combined with the ergonomic screen positioning, helps users maintain accuracy in high-stakes money-counting environments.

Impact

The new money counter represented a true advancement for Cummins Allison and their product category. The integrated design approach successfully complemented Cummins Allison’s maturing machine capabilities and reputation. The seamless combination of ergonomic industrial design and intuitive UI created a user experience that prioritized both accuracy and efficiency, positioning Cummins Allison at the forefront of money counting technology.
