Zebra’s RFID Technology Changes the Game of the NFL
One of our long-time clients, Zebra Technologies, has unveiled their newest device – MotionWorks™. Zebra has an extensive portfolio of marking and print technologies, including RFID and real-time locating systems. MotionWorks™ is designed specifically for the sports industry and captures player location and motion data to provide real-time performance solutions, enhancing team training, scouting and evaluation, as well as the overall fan experience.
Starting this season, the National Football League (NFL) installed the real-time location system (RTLS) in 17 stadiums, including Chicago. The location-based data is known as “Next Gen Stats” to fans. The receivers throughout the stadium communicate with the radio-frequency identification (RFID) transmitters placed inside the shoulder pads of each player to capture precise and usable statistics.
This new system gives coaches and players a deeper look into their performance. The data it captures (such as position, speed and distance) will help to improve athlete and team success. The comprehensive database generates real-time visualizations for coaching staff.
It’s a very cool product that we can definitely see being used more often in the future for a number of different sports. For more information, please visit Zebra’s site here.
