As we were glancing through the IDSA Fall issue of INNOVATION (which features all of the 2012 IDEA winners), we came across a beautiful chair design by a friend of ours at Feiz Design Studio in the Netherlands, Khodi Feiz. The Moment chair, which received a Silver IDEA Award in the Living Room & Bedroom category, was designed for Swedish furniture company OFFECCT.

The Moment chair is both simple and unique. “The generous flowing cup shape of the Moment chair supports your body, and a small table can be cantilevered outside the chair when you need a place for your coffee or rotated directly in front of you for a place to work. This articulating motion reinforces the notion of private and public, suggesting to others that you are available for conversation or you are busy with work—a social gauge, if you will.”

Says Feiz, “Observing those ‘moments’ which we engage in while seated was the key inspiration for this project… ‘noticing that we rarely ‘just sit’, we started to reflect on all the activities we do while sitting: all the moments that we read, we drink a cup of coffee, we work, we engage in conversation…’Moment’ was born out of these situations.”

The chair incorporates a swivel tray which can either fold in or out depending on your activity. “This opening and closing gesture also reinforces the notion of private and public, suggesting to others that you are available for conversation or you are busy with work, a social gauge, if you will.”

It’s certainly a comfortable looking chair that would make a statement in any room. You can read more about the design here.
