The IDSA Student Chapter at UIUC Visits Beyond Design
Last Friday, over fifty students visited our studio from the IDSA chapter of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Michael Prince gave a studio tour, as well as a presentation on who we are and what we do here at Beyond Design. Michael spoke with the students about what to expect when they enter the professional world and emphasized the need for them to understand the research process, develop strategies, and design products that are viable to the market. He stressed that they not only need to think about the design, but also about marketing, engineering, sales, and distribution. Whether in or out of school, designers should constantly be educating themselves about the newest trends and technology in the design world and learn how to work with a broad range of disciplines. In today’s world, it is really important that students have an understanding of SolidWorks and work to master the software, as it is used in design studios worldwide.
Whether through internships or a presentation such as this one, educating students is something we value greatly. It is essential that they understand the product development process and what industrial design is all about. Thanks to all those who visited!
