Thanks for Joining IDSA-Chicago and Beyond Design for the 2013 Home + Housewares Show Innovation Mixer!

March 6, 2013

On Monday, IDSA-Chicago and Beyond Design hosted a Home + Housewares Show Innovation Mixer at the UIC Innovation Center. Jim Kendall from Whirlpool talked about a few designs from their brands, including KitchenAid and Maytag, as well as the new Whirlpool 2020 concept, which was first introduced at CES this year.

The Whirlpool 2020 is a futuristic technology integration that will allow easy management and control over all your kitchen appliances, while also saving plenty of energy.

The two concepts are named FirePlace and the FreshConnect refrigerator. The FirePlace is a concept dining table, which will activate on both cooling and heating modes, depending on the items placed on it. The FreshConnect is a customizable, portable refrigerator that isn’t your typical fridge. The “fridge” comes as battery-powered units that can change temperature and humidity settings on the fly. They can be customized to contents like meats, fruits, or frozen food. The idea is to encourage fresh eating and provide streamlined access to a network of food suppliers. You can check out the video for the FreshConnect below.

The event had a great turnout and it provided an opportunity to network with students, designers, and other business professionals. Special thanks to IDSA-Chicago, Whirlpool, and the UIC Innovation Center staff for helping to make this event possible. Thanks to all those who attended!
