Tangerine Tango named the 2012 Pantone Color of the Year

December 8, 2011

Consumer products need a jolt of energy and boldness, which is why it’s the perfect time for Pantone to name Tangerine Tango—a spirited reddish orange hue—the 2012 color of the year.

Over the past several years, orange has grown in popularity and acceptance among designers and consumers alike. The annual forecast for the next year’s dominant color takes into consideration both what Pantone thinks consumers want and need. The color provides a fresh accent for consumer products, fashion, and home interiors.

“There’s the element of encouragement with orange, it’s building on the ideas of courage and action, that we want to move on to better things. I think it would be a disservice to go with a relaxed, soothing color now,”
said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, the research division of Pantone Inc., which creates color standards for the fashion, beauty and home industries.

We think it’s a great color choice! You can read more about the color in the Washington Post here.
