For all you Twinkie lovers out there, you better stock up now. Hostess, the makers of Twinkies, Ding Dongs, Ho Hos, and Wonder Bread, is going out of business after 82 years.
The announcement comes after striking workers failed to heed a deadline to return to work. In addition to labor costs, competition continues to increase in the snack industry. Consumers are increasingly conscious about healthy eating and the Hostess brand doesn’t fit into that category.
“Many people have worked incredibly long and hard to keep this from happening, but now Hostess Brands has no other alternative than to begin the process of winding down and preparing for the sale of our iconic brands,” CEO Gregory F. Rayburn said in a letter to employees.
