Samsung ‘Tizen’ Smartphone to Launch this Year
Have you heard about the new mobile OS called ‘Tizen’? Tizen is an operating system for devices including smartphones, tablets, and smart TVs. This Linux-based OS is governed by Technical Steering Group which is composed of Intel and Samsung.
In the beginning of May 2013, Samsung released this Tizen-based architecture for their new NX2000 and NX300 cameras. Last week, Samsung’s GT-i8805 with Tizen 2.1 OS appeared on Tizen Greek Community with the codename “Redwood”. A Samsung executive said that they are hoping to launch a Tizen smartphone later this year.
With over 900 million Android devices, Samsung will not have an easy time trying to market its new OS, but we’re curious to see where this goes. With iOS and Android controlling most of the mobile space, only time will tell whether or not Tizen will succeed.
