Meet Our Interns

July 10, 2019

We are half way though the summer season with our 2019 interns finishing up their program with us! This year Beyond welcomed 5 interns from across the country to our studio to work and learn with us for the summer. Please get to know the intern team below:

James Hudson

Marketing Intern

James comes to us from NYU Stern where he is studying Marketing and Computing/Data Science, slated to graduate in 2020. His go-to for lunch is Byron’s Hot Dogs and his favorite spot in to the city is Millennium Park.  When not in the studio you can find him at the beach and exploring Chicago’s restaurant scene. During his time here he has been heavily involved with creating graphics and pitch decks for Beyond’s passion project, The CR8.   James initially was introduced to Beyond from client, OTTO.

Andrea Benetar

Industrial Design Intern

Andrea is a class of 2022 Carnegie Mellon University (School of Design) student and is an industrial design intern. She has been working on the early ideation and brainstorming phases on several projects, developing and refining concept sketches, as well as some initial market research. She was connected to Beyond from a family friend when she was a sophomore in High School when her curiosity on the field peaked.  Her go-to local lunch spot is Bienmesabe or La Boulangerie and her favorite Chicago hang out is the Riverwalk downtown. When she’s not sketching in our studio you can find her dancing or with friends enjoying the beach and Chicago summer.

Lucas Pagni

Manufacturing and DesignEngineer Intern

Lucas joined us this summer as a mechanical engineering intern. He is part of the 2020 graduating class of Northwestern where he’s studying Manufacturing and Design Engineering. Around the office you’ll find him working on designing a medical cleaning device and creating 3D models of accessories. His favorite place in Ravenswood for lunch is La Boulangerie.  His favorite part of the city is it’s proximity to Lake Michigan and outside of work you can find him jogging, reading on his porch, and drinking coffee.

Natalie Hanson

Design Engineering Intern

Natalie is currently majoring in Manufacturing Design Engineering at Northwestern (Class of 2020) and visited our studio last semester when NW’s Segal Design Department visited us for a tour and Q&A with owner, Michael Prince. From that initial introduction, Natalie wanted to join the team this summer and was welcomed as part of our Design Engineering intern program.  So far this Natalie has hopped on several projects, most recently she has been story-boarding concepts for a design challenge and creating low fidelity prototypes. The second half of the summer she will be developing CAD for a single concept and presenting to the client!  At lunch you’ll find her at La Boulangerie or at Table Stix Ramen near campus. Her favorite part of the city to explore is Millennium Park where she packs up a baguette, cheese and grapes from Eataly and taking them to picnic at the Park with friends during the public jazz festivals and outdoor movies.    When she’s back near the Evanston campus you can catch her hammocking with a sketchbook or a novel or at the Ford Design Center troubleshooting a 3D printer or working on a project.

Joseph McCarey

Engineering Intern

After Beyond Design sponsored Joseph’s robotics team he was interested in our company and wanted to learn from our team.  Joseph will start school in the fall as a freshman at Harvard University with a concentration in Mechanical Engineering (Class of 2023) and has been spending his pre-college summer working on accessory packaging for Beyond’s CR88 project and brainstorming new ideas for a food delivery project. Outside the studio, Joseph likes to explore Chinatown, start DIY projects, read fantasy novels, and play tabletop or video games with friends (most notably defending his spot on Tetris leader boards).  During the weekday grind, you can find Joseph grabbing lunch at Budacki’s Drive-In.

We’re excited to see how the interns progress (as well as what we learn from them) the remainder of the summer! For more on our internship program and open positins, please email hr@startbeyond.com and read more about our intern team on our About page here.
