IFA 2019
IFA 2019 comes to a close in Berlin this week. The international consumer electronics and home appliance show has been taking place in Germany for nearly a century. With a rich history (notably opening with Albert Einstein in 1930), IFA has continued to draw global attention and impress attendees with the latest in tech and appliances. Catch up on this year’s show below:
Smart Home Devices
The second generation Amazon Fire TV showcased it’s new powerful and speedy processor. Although the design is the same gen one, this cube features far-field voice recognition, eight microphones, and a six-core processor. In a demo, the Fire TV Cube responded to commands like “Alexa, play Adele” or “Alexa, play The Grand Tour” by pulling up the requested content within seconds from almost across the room. Additionally, you can use the Fire TV Cube to switch inputs, channels, or streaming services with just your voice (originally reported on PC Magazine).
An Austrian and German Exclusive
The Grundig OLED-Fire TV Edition comes with eight microphones and is Fire TV and Amazon Alexa accessible straight out of the box. With the powerful microphones you can change the channel on live TV (among other controls) with only your voice. The TV comes in two sizes, 55 and 65 inches.
Lenovo Smart Display 7
The refreshed design of the smart display will add a pop of style to your interior. Although samller than previous models, it has a ton of functionality and can do such activities as stream video, music, and take on Google assistant commands.
Samsung Airdresser
The Samsung Airdresser sanitizes and removes dust from clothing and includes a deoderizing filter giving clothes an extra fresh smell. The crystal mirror cover makes it an easy, and subtle, addition to any room.
Smarter Cleaning
Roborock robot vacuum isn’t your typical smart appliance. The S5 Max has selective room mopping, no mop zones, and a mechanically spring mop pad ensuring a full service clean.
Folding Smart Phone
LG’s second folding phone of the year is the LG G8X ThinQ. The phone was refreshed with upgraded hardware, redesigned UI, and practicality.
Garmin Smartwatch
Garmin Venu has a 1.2-inch AMOLED touch display with stellar endurance, lasting 5 days on a single charge. The fitness monitor tracks respiration, hydration, and sweat loss estimation and is available for $399.99.
Sonos Speaker
Sonos introduced their first battery-powered Bluetooth speaker, The Move at IFA. Weighing a durable 7 pounds and standing at a foot tall, it can handle the outdoors and severe drops. The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) gave The Move a IP56 rating ensuring it can handle water (although not water proof) and dust. The Move can be purchased later this month for $399.00.
