DesignHouse Brings Local Designers and Manufacturers Together
DesignHouse is a new Chicago based company which supports local manufacturing by using existing capacity as inspiration for designers to develop new consumer products.
They just held their first Design Jam – high energy, pro-bono work sessions in which top product designers come together to develop new consumer goods that can be produced in Chicago. Forty designers brainstormed concepts with inspiration from SKOL Manufacturing, a metal fabricator and job shop located in the Ravenswood corridor with capabilities ranging from bending & brake pressing to cutting, welding, and stamping. In the coming months DesignHouse will work with SKOL to implement some of the most promising ideas.
Chicago continues to be a major U.S. manufacturing hub, and, as designers, we are all about growing our city’s economy through increased manufacturing activity. DesignHouse helps to make designers more aware of local production capabilities – and we think it’s a great thing.
