Disrupting the Pink Aisle

Building Games to Inspire Future Female Engineers [GoldieBlox]

November 22, 2013

“We’re GoldieBlox, a toy company out to show the world that girls deserve more choices than dolls and princesses. We believe that femininity is strong and girls will build the future — literally.”

GoldieBlox just released an inspiring new video that perfectly demonstrates the company’s mission – empowering young girls to invent the future. Debbie Sterling, a Standford Mechanical Engineering/Product Design graduate, started the company after she had enough of the pink princesses and sparkly ponies seen in the “girl” aisles at stores.

In a world where men largely outnumber women in science, technology, engineering and math…and girls lose interest in these subjects as early as age 8, GoldieBlox is determined to change the equation.

The video and the companies mission particularly hit home for us in the design and engineering world and we at Beyond Design hope the future will see more women as design and engineering leaders.  Hit the link to be inspired…
