BD Unofficial Lolla After Show

Beyond + Sofar + Lollapalooza

August 6, 2018

We had the pleasure of hosting our third Sofar show of the season last week – and this time we had very special Lollapalooza artists! We opened our courtyard for an unofficial Lollapalooza After Show with artists Grace Weber, Morgan Saint, and Femdot. If you have not attended a Sofar Show, in our courtyard or otherwise, they are curated, intimate shows and have featured thousands of artists from around the globe. The gigs take place on rooftops, storefronts, living rooms, and of course, Ravenswood studios.

Grace Weber

Grace Weber is a Grammy award-winning artist who gained notable recognition on Chance the Rapper’s album, Coloring Book, where she is featured on ‘All We Got’ – which she co -wrote with Chance and Kanye West. She has performed at the Apollo Theatre and on the Oprah Winfrey Show.  With her roots in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, she opened The Music Lab, Inc., a non-profit organization based in Milwaukee that builds community through music, by offering a free music education, career prep, and open mic performance program to high school-aged youth of all backgrounds. She is represented by Big Mouth Records and is currently recording her first full-length album.  At our show, Grace was accompanied by her guitarist and piano player and played on day 3 of the festival.

Morgan Saint

Following Weber’s soulful set was singer Morgan Saint. Saint takes traditional pop and contorts it into buzzing melodies and tracks about lost love and heartbreak.  She stripped down her usual electro-pop singles for the Sofar Show and also performed on day 3 of Lolla. She signed to Epic late last summer and you can stream her debut EP, Hero 17, on all platforms and hear her track “New Regine” on popular Freeform dramedy, The Bold Type.  She’ll be touring on the West Coast for the remainder of summer before returning to Chicago for a show at Lincoln Hall in October.

Femdot

In the excitement and chaos of the 4-day festival, our last band to perform abruptly canceled leaving an open spot. The audience could not have been more pleased with our last minute act though. Femdot saved the day with his charisma and honest rap tracks. A Chicago native and recent DePaul grad, Femdot instantly connected with the audience and closed out our last summer show of the season. He was recently featured in Nylon magazine as “Chicago’s Newest Rap Sensation” and is celebrating his newly released album, Delacrem 2.  At only 22, he’s been writing and making music for a decade and creating a name for himself in the Windy City rap scene. He performed on day 2 of Lolla and you can listen to his album now on Soundcloud.

Thank you to Sofar for a summer of great music and great audiences! Keep your eyes peeled for more shows this fall!
