An Entertainment Option for the Budget-Minded Consumer

October 12, 2011

Looking for a cheaper TV entertainment option? Well, here is an affordable solution. A few months ago I cut my cable account and purchased an Apple TV. The Apple TV was a bit expensive priced at $99.00, and I keep losing the thin remote that was provided. This week a company called Roku caught my eye with its media streaming player product line. According to TechCrunch, Roku is revealing the new Roku LT video streamer for only $49.99—the LT will be one of the cheapest video streaming options on the market in November.

The Roku Lt has built-in wireless, streams video at 720p and has access to Roku’s 300+ channel catalog. Roku provides featured channels such as Netflix, Hulu Plus, Amazon Instant Video, Pandora, and Disney. In addition, they are expanding by adding a new channel—HBO Go. If the LT does not provide enough options, Roku released the Roku 2 HD, Roku 2 XD, and the Roku 2 XS a few months ago. These options provide motion-based gaming in addition to the video-streaming and 300+ channel catalog. Seems like something that might be worth a try if I keep losing my Apple remote! You can check out more about the Roku here.
