Exciting news for those in Chicago! As most of you know, Navy Pier is the most popular tourist attraction in Chicago, drawing nearly nine million visitors annually. Navy Pier, Inc., a not-for-profit newly formed group entrusted with the redevelopment and operation of the Pier, spent the last few months conducting an international search for a design team to re-imagine the Pier’s outdoor public spaces, or “Pierscape”.

The competition entrants aimed to create a sensory-based experience that would re-activate engagement and enjoyment with water. Navy Pier, Inc. hopes the redesign will attract not only out-of-town visitors to Navy Pier, but also people who currently live in the city.

The winning team will be led by James Corner Field Operations, a company based in New York. You can read all about it here, and check out some of the designs that didn’t win here.
