A floating pool? Sounds like a weird concept. However with +POOL just reaching its Kickstarter goal, the idea could soon be a reality for New Yorkers.

+POOL will be a large cross shaped swimming pool, that will filter half a million gallons of water per day, helping to create clean river water for New York. The structure will have 4 different pools within it; a kiddy pool, a lap pool, a sports pool, and a lounge pool.

“+ POOL is designed to filter the very river that it floats in through the walls of the pool, making it possible for New Yorkers to swim in clean river water for the first time in 100 years. The layered filtration system incrementally removes bacteria and contaminants to ensure nothing but clean, swimmable water that meets both city and state standards. No chemicals, no additives, just natural river water.”

If all goes as planned, the pool will open summer of 2016, just in time for the Olympics. You can learn more about the concept on their Kickstarter page.
