An 11-year-old reinvents an unbreakable, spill-proof cup for her grandfather

June 23, 2014

We love checking out the campaigns on Kickstarter – especially when one of our designer’s is a part of it! Lily Born, an 11-year-old in Chicago, first thought up the no-spill cup a few years ago when she noticed that her grandfather, who has Parkinson’s disease, had trouble drinking from regular cups without spilling. With the help of her father, she launched a Kickstarter campaign to manufacture the ceramic cups.

The campaign was a success, however, over the years Lily noticed that the design could be improved. It often broke, as it was ceramic, and it didn’t stack very easily. Today, she has reinvented the cup (with the help of a team of fellow designers) and launched a new campaign to design the Kangaroo Cup in plastic.

The improved design is easily stackable, unbreakable and made out of BPA-free plastic instead of ceramic. The cup is perfect for any age – and comes in a variety of colors. Lily’s goal of $25,000 has since doubled and they still have two weeks to go. To support her campaign and get your own set of cups for only $25, visit the Kickstarter page here.
