 About The Position:

• Beyond Design is hiring an Industrial Design Intern for the Spring/Summer of 2022
• 3-6 Month Duration
• Paid Internship (Competitive salary)
• Beginning in late May/early June (flexible start and stop dates)

Job Description:

Within Beyond Design, the Intern plays an important role in the design process and is expected to contribute to projects on multiple levels. As an Intern, you must have a passion for industrial design and a curiosity for how things work. As an intern, you should have a willingness to take on new challenges, working with teams to support projects with fresh ideas and the execution for Client presentations. In addition to industrial design responsibilities, as a member of the Beyond Design team, you will also help draw, render, and prototype ideas for a range of assigned projects. As a Design Intern you will gain experience and an understanding of how ideas are brought to life, from concept to production release.

About You:

• Currently enrolled full-time in an accredited School/University in the United States
• 2+ years of completed university education (Sophomore or Junior). Candidates who graduate before or during the internship period will be rejected.
• Undergraduate or Graduate students with a 3.2 GPA or higher
• Has a passion for designing products and experiences for the complete consumer journey
• Excellent sketching and form development skills, fast visualization
• Ability to apply problem solving skills to a wide variety of projects
• CAD Modeling in SolidWorks (preferred)
• Outstanding verbal and visual communication skills

Responsibilities:

• Participate in marketing research (competitive research, technologies, features, market segments, and more)
• Conduct project design research including Human Factors and Ergonomics
• Good rapid visualization skills through sketches and renderings for concept exploration
• Experience designing products involving use interaction and ergonomics
• Create design concepts (sketches and 3D CAD) as a result of consumer research or a request from Marketing
• Study ergonomics and product configuration
• Present design solutions through sketches, CAD models, mock-ups and renderings
• Develop a product to the point of prototype with 3D CAD modeling software
• Conduct research and synthesize information
• Ensure project goals (time, cost, etc.) are met

Proficient At:

• Form development and rapid visual sketching
• 3D CAD development (SolidWorks)
• Visual and verbal communication
• Experience with KeyShot
• Proficient in the Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign…)
• Microsoft Office
• Google Sheets, Docs, Drive, etc.
• Mural
• Visual communication & graphic design skills are a plus

This intern position is ideal for an aspiring industrial designer who wants a hands-on approach to learn and develop professional skills that will last a lifetime. This is a paid internship and will have a specified start and stop date. The working hours can be somewhat flexible, though with an expectation to work 8-5, Monday through Friday. Prior experience or relevant education is a plus but not a deal breaker. We value interest and attitude as much as experience.
