Description
Beyond Design, Inc. is a full-service product development consultancy for consumer product clients located in Chicago, IL. We are searching for a talented and enthusiastic individual to add to our growing design team.
As a Lead Industrial Designer, you will be working with our design team to bring concepts from ideation through CAD development. The candidate must be able to generate great concepts, articulate those concepts to colleagues or clients, and define the concepts through sketching and CAD development. As a Lead member of our team, you will be responsible for establishing the project strategies along with leading creative idea generation, concept sketching, design refinement, product renderings, presentation layouts, CAD development, and manufacturing documentation.
Required Skills
– Industrial Design Degree (BFA, BID, or other degrees will be accepted)
– 3 – 5 years of experience with portfolio examples showing exceptional form development
through sketches and supported with CAD (SolidWorks).
– Manage projects, design teams, budgets, and Clients with an emphasis on Business and DFM
– Lead design projects and teams with critical thinking strategies and implementation skills
– Generate original and innovative ideas through concept sketches
– Strong knowledge and application of materials and manufacturing processes
– Product styling and form development with a Visual Brand Language (VBL)
– Expert at 3D CAD software using SolidWorks with an intent for manufacturing
– Experience with 3D printing and the operation of machines
– Create 3D Rendering using KeyShot or other packages (Animation skills are a nice plus to have)
– Prepare drawings and other documentation intended for production
– Ability to conduct Ethnographic Research with great Verbal Communication
– Excellent verbal and written skills with strong interpersonal communication skills
– Foster a healthy corporate culture of innovation and collaboration
– Maintain a high standard of customer service and professional guidance
– Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, working alongside industrial designers
– Mentor others, including interns
– Sense of humor
Key Responsibilities
– Design Leadership: Set the vision, guide the design process, provide feedback, and ensure high-quality design delivery.
– Concept Development: Translate user needs and market insights into compelling 2D/3D concepts, sketches, models, and prototypes.
– Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with Engineering, Marketing, and UX teams to ensure design feasibility and alignment with business objectives.
– User-Centered Design: Conduct user research, testing, and analysis to create intuitive and effective products.
– Project Management: Oversee complex projects from initial concept to mass production, managing
timelines and deliverables.
– Innovation & Trends: Stay informed on emerging technologies, materials, and industry trends to drive innovation.
– Mentorship: Coach and develop junior designers, fostering team growth and skill development.
