Description

Beyond Design, Inc. is a full-service product development consultancy for consumer product clients located in Chicago, IL. We are seeking a creative, intelligent, and motivated individual to join our expanding design team.

As a Design Engineer, you will be working with our design team to combine function and aesthetics. The candidate must have an outstanding understanding of materials and manufacturing for production, based on an excellent proficiency in SolidWorks, combined with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, working alongside industrial designers. Additionally, mechanical intuition and outside-the-box creative skills are essential.

Required Skills

– Engineering Degree (ME, the degree may vary if you have a proven track record with DFM)
– 3-5 years’ experience
– Expert at 3D CAD software using SolidWorks with an intent for manufacturing
– Proven mechanical design and engineering skills with both structural and functional mechanisms
– Strong knowledge and application of materials and manufacturing processes
– Entry-level of FEA or CFD is a nice plus to have.
– Experience designing high-volume, injection-molded components, complex parts, and mechanisms
– Skilled in producing drawing documentation
– Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills
– Excellent verbal and written skills with strong interpersonal communication skills
– Foster a healthy corporate culture of innovation and collaboration
– Maintain a high standard of customer service and professional guidance
– Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, working alongside industrial designers
– Mentor others, including interns
– Sense of humor

Key Responsibilities

– Create detailed 2D/3D models, drawings, and specifications using CAD/CAE software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit). 
– Prototyping & Testing: Build and oversee testing of prototypes (stress, load, fatigue) and analyze performance. 
– Collaboration: Work with cross-functional teams (R&D, manufacturing, project managers, clients) to define requirements and align designs. 
– Improvement: Modify existing products and processes to enhance performance, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. 
– Documentation: Prepare technical reports, manuals, testing protocols, and bills of materials (BOMs). 
– Cost Management: Estimate budgets, analyze costs, and ensure designs are economically viable. 
– Compliance: Ensure designs meet industry standards, regulations, and safety guidelines.
