The 2012 Ravenswood ArtWalk

October 1, 2012

This past weekend marked the 11th annual Ravenswood ArtWalk which took place along the historic Ravenswood Industrial Corridor from Irving Park to Lawrence Avenue. The ArtWalk allowed guests a peek at the creative arts and businesses in the area. There were 250+ artists showcasing fine art, handmade crafts, music and theatrical performances, architecture, design, and much more.

We opened our doors at Beyond Design and had several artists feature their work in our studio. It was a very diverse group of artists who presented photography, paintings, jewelry, dance, music, etc. Each of the artists is listed below, along with some details about what they do and where you can find more information on each one.

Chicago Glass Collective is a community-based art studio dedicated to bringing the unique medium of glass to Chicago through educational workshops and dedicated studio space for new and experienced glass artists. Their website can be found here. Very neat designs!

Matter of Reaction Movement Project was founded in 2006 by Reneé Murray and Kathleen Hickey. Their primary medium is dance – they choreograph modern, post modern and interactive dance. Matter of Reaction Movement Project uses human bodies to create art. They demonstrated several interactive dances in our courtyard, and allowed visitors to choose the dance. You can find more information on the Matter of Reaction Movement Project here.

In addition to the artists above, Specimen Products featured their “Liederhorns” demo. Specimen builds custom electric guitars, tube amplifiers and audio horn speakers. The Liederhorn is Specimen’s newest horn shape and are entirely handmade – making each horn unique. They were originally designed for the Sonic Arboretum, a collaborative project between Specimen’s Ian Schneller and composer/violinist Andrew Bird which exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago in December 2011.

It was a beautiful weekend in Chicago for the ArtWalk and a lot of people came to check it out. We even had some impromptu music from visitors who stopped by our studio!
