SEE8 Program + Land of Nod
Over the past five years, the See8 program has been a positive influence for Chicago Public School students. Starting off as Dig8 by Beyond Design, other university and pro-mentors joined to develop a program where students could participate in all facets of product development – learning about engineering, finance, marketing, manufacturing, teamwork and presentation skills.
These memorable experiences turned Dig8 into See8. 3rd through 8th grade students have expanded their horizons to push them towards the goals to better themselves and to believe in a passion of theirs.
For five exciting months, four teams of SEE middle school students in Chicago worked with Northwestern, UIC and professional mentors to design and pitch their own product startups—and now, one product has been selected for national distribution through Land of Nod: THE ROCKET SHELF!
The Rocket Shelf was chosen at a “shark tank” pitch day where students presented their presentations – which included concepts, research, prototypes, manufacturing and pricing to Land of Nod’s head of design. A wall mounted piece of art for children’s bedrooms and play areas will be carried in their catalog and retailed at stores in Chicago.
