Smarter Labeling at Your Fingertips
Beyond Design improved the User Interface (UI) and User Experience (UX) of the new Zebra Technologies ZTS600 printer. The updated UI design had to be intuitive and user-friendly to help people use the machine more efficiently.
Designers interviewed and studied user interactions with previous Zebra units to assess their strengths and weaknesses. Wireframes and information architectures were mapped out to spot complexities and to develop a visual blueprint for refinement.
To reduce complexity, the UI was streamlined with simplified screens that saved time and were easier to navigate. This straightforward flow prioritized the most common printer feature, and the screen layouts guided the users’ attention. The redesign helps get the job done without sorting through endless unnecessary menus.
Graphic design was a large part of the new UI. Elements like fonts, color, and icons had to align with the new Zebra Global Product Design Language and become more harmonious with Zebra’s product line. A total UI makeover made the ZTS600 UX feel more modern and approachable to power users and new users.
A cool addition to the UI design was how the new LCD touchscreen component let designers interact with users in a new way. Custom tutorial animations were developed and programmed into the machine’s UI to guide setup and troubleshoot issues. Visual demonstrations made setting up the unit and fixing problems quicker and less troublesome.
This ZTS600 UI design project added to Zebra’s established product line and enhanced the holistic customer experience.
