The Power of Design Shines Bright

A line of industrial flashlights useful in every situation.

When Rayovac set out to create a new line of professional-grade flashlights, we knew we needed to focus on the people who would use them most, like construction workers, builders, and tradesmen. We talked directly with these users to understand what they needed and what frustrated them about their current flashlights. One key takeaway was that durability was non-negotiable.

Our design team focused on creating a line of rugged, robust, and reliable flashlights that could handle intense, daily use. To meet these demands, designers gave the flashlights pivoting light heads and overmolded rubber grips to accommodate different work environments. Ergonomic handles with built-in activation buttons made them easy to operate, even when wearing gloves. And wide grip bosses provided a secure handhold with a clear visual identity that was functional and aesthetically pleasing. We even added room for carabiner hooks for extra portability.

There was also the need for hands-free operation. Therefore, we made the flashlights capable of standing upright and with rotating heads for directional lighting. This allowed users to have light without needing to constantly hold up the unit. But one of the biggest challenges was ensuring drop-proof durability. Flashlights breaking apart when dropped was a common user pain point, so we reinforced the flashlights’ housings with thicker walls and structural ribs to prevent this issue. This ruggedness made the flashlights reliable tools that professionals could count on day after day.
