Classic Design for the HDTV Era

A “rabbit ear” style antenna that works for all kinds of TVs.

When HDTV hit the market, it sparked a renewed demand for “Rabbit Ear” antennas as consumers sought ways to access over-the-air broadcasts. Since some TV manufacturers molded antenna mounts directly into their TVs while others did not, our design needed to accommodate both scenarios.

Balancing Form and Function

To address this, our design team created a two-part solution for RCA. The first part included a snap-in mounting feature for compatible TVs, while the second had a separate, sturdy base for those without a mounting option. We focused on a bold, sturdy aesthetic with rigid lines and textured surfaces to give the antenna a modern look. The product was built to be stable, as we tested multiple models with different steel plates to determine the ideal balanced weight.

The result was a versatile, dual-purpose Rabbit Ear antenna that blended form and function for the HDTV era.
