Driving User-Friendly Design and Features

Beyond Design partnered with Cedar Electronics to design a new dashboard camera solution for the Cobra brand. The SC 120 Dash Cam enhances the feeling of safety and security for drivers and passengers. It’s a compact, approachable, and easy-to-mount device for the inside of vehicles. It can capture HD video footage and record scenic drives or unexpected incidents.

The Cobra SC 120 Dash Cam is for rideshare drivers, commuters, and people who value safety. Its sleek, unobtrusive design blends into car interiors to avoid distractions. Features like cloud-based video storage, motion sensor detection, and GPS give commuters peace of mind. Plus, installation is quick and easy with a suction mount, USB-C port, and included SD card.

Designing From Point A to Point B

The Cobra SC 120 Dash Cam’s design led using a human-centered approach. Beyond Design focused on the needs of users and manufacturing vendors. Designers explored concepts and configurations to select the ideal product size and ergonomics. Then, we built and printed 3D models in-house to undergo a series of reiterations after testing and review.

The chosen design resembled a Cyclops. The product was rendered in detailed perspective views and elevations to communicate key features, materials, colors, and finishes with manufacturers. Cedar Electronics was ready for mass production with efficient and verified assembly strategies. The result is a high-performance device designed for manufacturing, is user-friendly, and makes drivers feel safer on the road.
