iD Cards: A Simplified Way of Understanding New Product Development (NPD)
A few members of our team attended the IDSA Midwest Conference in St. Louis a few months ago, and picked up some iD cards that we have since shared with everyone at Beyond Design. No matter how little or how much you know about ID, we thought you’d find these pretty informative.
As defined by the creators of the cards, they are “A taxonomy of design representations to support communication and understanding during new product development.” The cards provide a name, example, and description for the key design representations used by industrial/product designers during new product development (NPD).
Sketches/drawings are shown on the front side of the sheet.
Models/prototypes are shown on the reverse.
You can download a PDF of the cards here.
